Best selling book in 19th Century
Uncle Tom’s Cabin was published on March 20, 1852. It was the best-selling book of the 19th century. Harriet Beecher Stowe’s book reached millions and it became influential in the United States and Great Britain. It energized anti-slavery forces in the American North but provoked widespread anger in the South. Uncle Tom’s Cabin depicts the harsh conditions for enslaved African Americans.

JK Rowling is the author of a magical universe. Harry Potter is the best selling book series that has been translated into more than 80 languages. It’s sold more than 500 million copies worldwide. According to CNN Money, Harry Potter is a global brand worth an estimated $25 billion dollars.

Dame Agatha Christie is also known as the “queen of crime”. She wrote 66 detective novels and 14 short story collections. Most of her books revolve around fictional detectives, Hercule Poirot, and Miss Marple. She’s known for writing the world’s longest running play, a murder mystery, The Mousetrap. It premiered on November 25, 1952. It’s still running after more than 27,000 performances. According to the Guinness World Records, Christie is the best-selling novelist of all time. Furthermore, Unesco’s Index Translationum states that she remains the most translated individual author. “And then there were none” is Christie’s best selling book and the world’s best-selling mystery ever.

 Equally important, Barbara Cartland is a best-selling author who broke records for having the most novels published in a single year, in 1976. She wrote 723 novels and sold over one billion copies. They were translated into 38 languages.
